Commercial letter from Zachariadis, Thessaloniki, to Morris D. Kopple, New York, routed through Athens on 24 March 1945. The 12-new-drachma foreign surface-letter rate was paid by 5 + 2 + 5 drachma values of the Historical definitive issue, overprinted ΔΡΑΧΜΑΙ ΝΕΑΙ following the November 1944 monetary reform. Opened and resealed with bilingual OPENED BY EXAMINER No. 1507 tape and struck with ΕΛΛ. ΕΛΕΓΧΟΣ / GREEK CENSOR No. 1. An important early post-Liberation combination of restored transatlantic mail, currency transition and continuing censorship.
