Demosthenes Vergis was president of the party Greek Ecologists (Greek: Έλληνες Οικολόγοι), previously Union of Ecologists, Greek: Ένωση Οικολόγων. NOTE: Demosthenes Vergis in June 2014, he was sentenced to 37 years and 6 months in prison without suspension for fraud against the public, because he was claiming forest or reforestable public lands with fake titles. He was arrested in August 2014 in Exarchia and released in 2017, using the Paraskevopoulos law.
