POW Italian postcard to Greece written by Greek prisoner in Camp No. 17 at Rezzanello/Gazzola, Emilia-Romagna Region near Piacenza city (PC) P.M. 3200. Message written to his wife in Kastoria/Greece on 22 August 1943.
The card remained in Rome, after it was captured by the Germans when the Italian capital was occupied in mid-September.
Forwarded to Vienna for inspection by the international letter inspection military service “g”, authorized to examine correspondence mainly to and from Balkans countries, the card was stamped with the Vienna OKW ‘g’ censor 2-line machine stamp in red “Oberkommando der Wehrmacht / Geprüft”.
Examiner’s number "291305" were applied in green on front. Also tsted with a chemical censor brush line, in blue, on text side for secret text.
Dispathed to Kastoria, Greece; no postal or other marks applied on arrival at final destination. Greek officers are seldom seen in Italian POW camps.
