1. Stampless cover mailed from Souda (Chania) to Athens franked with Greek battleship “ΒΕΛΟΣ” (ARROW), double ring violet administrative handstamp, “Β.Π. ΒΕΛΟΣ Β.Ν.” in the belt and anchor with crown in the centre. On reverse the same as above administrative cachet plus Chania (18.12.1968) and Athens (20.12.1968) machine postmarks. Cover faults due to rough opening. Scarce.
2. Official diptych wishing picture postcard, design: Coat of arms and silhouette of Greek battleship “ΒΕΛΟΣ” (ARROW), hand written date (30.12.1962). Slight crease but scarce.
NOTE: The Arrow II ( Destroyer ) / D-16 'FLETCHER', former 'USS CHARETTE DD-581', was a Greek Navy ship, which in 1973 during NATO training exercises, withdrew and sought asylum in Italy, specifically in Fiumicino, as a result of the failed Movement of the Navy. Nikolaos Pappas (1929 - 2013), captain of the ship, was who together with six officers and twenty-five non-commissioned officers applied for political asylum and remained there as political exiles. The move dealt a blow to the Colonels' junta .When the Turks invased in Cyprus, the destroyer Velos hurried to help the defense of the island. Today it functions as a Museum of Anti-dictatorship Struggle .
