Commercial printed corner cover to Athens, franked with 3dr Greek ’Head of King George II’ (Historical set, 1937) plus 50lepta ‘Social Providence’ (Heads of Queens Olga and Sophia) stamps (1939) cancelled with ‘ΧΑΝΙΑ 22 XΙ 40 ΑΠΟΣΤΟΛΗ’ [Chania Dispatch, 22 November 1940] date-stamp.
Examined at the local censor office; secured with Hellenic EXCHANGE CONTROL resealing tape (in use from 1936 to 1941) affixed on reverse to become plain, stamped with violet single-line cachet texted ‘ΕΞΗΛΕΓΘΗ’ [Examined].
Backstamped on arrival at destination with ‘AΘΗΝΑΙ 26.XII.40 ΑΦΙΞΙΣ’ [Athens, Arrival 26 December 1940] 9-line wavy postal marking; diamond number ‘27’ applied by the delivering postman.
