Small single-ring violet cachet texted ‘ΛΟΓΟΚΡΙΣΙΑ ΧΙΟΥ’ [Chios Censorship] with examiner’s no. “4” on Commercial Bank of Greece registered corner cover to Athens, franked with variety stamps to 15.50dr; postmarked ‘ΧΙΟΣ / CHIOS 17.XΙΙ.40’ [17 December 1940] date stamp with oblong framed “ΧΙΟΣ” registry marking endorsed with pencil “Σ 7917” [Registry no. 7917, Chios].
Opened and passed by censor at the local censor office; secured with Hellenic EXCHANGE CONTROL resealing tape (in use from 1936 to 1941) affixed on reverse to become plain, tied with blue single round cachet texted ‘ΛΟΓΟΚΡΙΣΙΑ ΧΟΥ’ and no. “4” reader’s marking centrally [Chios Censorship 4].
Backstamped at destination with ‘ΑΘΗΝΑΙ - ΣΥΣΤΗΜΕΝΑ 11.XII.40 –ΑΦΙΞΙΣ’ [Athens Registered Arrival, 11 December 1941] postal date-stamp.
