Registered stationery cover with 8Dr ’Head of King George II’ and 1Dr ‘Social Providence’ (Heads of Queens Olga and Sophia) imprinted stamps (1939) + added 8Dr ‘Balkan Entente’ adhesive (1940) on reverse plus blue on white perforated framed oblong registry label “R / GRÈCE Volos” [Registry no. 286, Volos] applied. Cover is addressed to El Mahalla El Kubra (simply as El Maḥalla) in the Nile Delta.
Postmarked with ‘ΒΟΛΟΣ / VOLO 9 AVR 41’ [9 April 1941] date stamp and dispatched to Volos Censorship Service; opened on left vertical edge and examined by censor, tied with ‘ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΗ ΛΟΓΟΚΡΙΣΙΑ’ printed tape on side edge, receiving reader double-circle “18” censor marking in violet.
Backstamped in Athens with s.r. ‘ΑΘΗΝΑΙ - ΣΥΣΤΗΜΕΝΑ 11.IV.41 –ΑΦΙΞΙΣ’ [Athens Registered Arrival, 11 April 1941] postal date-stamp, and forwarded to Cairo, Egypt where it passed again by censor.
Postmarked in Egyptian Arabic and French: ‘Cairo Arrival, 19 May 1941’ to final destination ‘Mehalla El Kobry 20 May 1941’.
