Passed by the Greek Inspection service in Athens on the mail ‘for the protection of the National Currency’ (operated from 13 August 1948 to 24 October 1951), receiving no. “3” large single-circle examiner’s marking (front).
After several unsuccessful attempts to locate the addressee in Greece (see notations), the item was finally stamped with a framed 2-line “ΕΠΙΣΤΡΕΦΕΤΑΙ / RETOUR A L’ENVOYEUR” texted cachet in Greek/French for return to sender in France; ms “ανεχώρησεν” [departed, via Italy with pen and pencil].
Backstamped with m/s ATHINAI 5.VIII.40 POSTE AERIENNE on departure from Greece.
