Commercial corner envelope dispatched open from UK to Greece, franked with British strip of three ½p King Edward VII adhesives overprinted ‘TANGIER’. Total franking: 1½p required for international printed minter rate. The stamps were cancelled ‘MAIDENHEAD, BERKS. 21 MCH 1952’ (21 March 1952).
[In 1950, the British post office put on sale its excess supply of M.E.F. and other overprints to the public. Of these stamps, only those still denominated in sterling were allowed to be used for postage in the country.]
Backstamped with a wavy machine cancellation dated ‘ΑΘΗΝΑΙ 30.ΙΙΙ.52 ΑΦΙΞΙΣ’ (Athens Arrival, 30 March 1952), upon arrival at destination. The one-line diamond shaped '32' postman’s mark in Athens shows the item was delivered at receiver’s address.
Condition: Excellent; see scans.
