GREECE 1938 Cover mailed from the small village of Stavros, Ithaca (Ionian Islands) to Cardiff, England (should be Wales). Cover is franked on the front with a single 8dr King George II and two 50L Charity (Postal Tax) singles on the back, all tied by ΣΤΑΥΡΟΣ 1 ΜΑΙ 38 (ΙΘΑΚΗΣ) circular date stamps. In Patras, the envelope was opened, inspected, and sealed with large block letter (ΕΛΕΓΧΟΣ) ΣΥΝΑΛΛΑΓΜΑΤΟΣ CONTROLE DU (CHANGE) tape, tied by ΠΑΤΡΑΙ 4.V.38 ΑΠΟΣΤΟΛΗ front and back and violet ΥΠΗΡΕΣΙΑ ΠΡΟΣΤΑΣΙΑΣ ΕΘΝΙΚΟΥ ΝΟΜΙΣΜΑΤΟΣ - ΠΑΤΡΩΝ - on the front. Manuscript initials in pink on both sides, and ΠΑΤΡΑΙ 4.V.38 machine cancel. CARDIFF * ? MY 38 arrival on the back. A bit roughly opened at top, still an unusual origin-destination item.
