Unfranked cover to Athens, Greece from an officer (captain) with the 3rd Hellenic Infantry Regiment operating at Dinar region on 22 October 1922 in Turkey (areas under Greek administration, 1919-22). Sender’s details (in Greek) on flap: ‘‘Λοχαγός Νικολόπουλος, 3ον Πεζ. 922” [3rd Infantry Regiment, Postal Sector 922].
Addressee is Miss Georgia Despotopoulou, known along with her two sisters Nefeli and Ioanna for having kept correspondence with Greek enlisted men in all fronts from 1912 (Balkan Wars) to 1923 (shortly after the expedition to Turkey).
Postmarked for despatch with “ΤΑΧ. ΤΟΜ. 922 / 22 ΟΚΤ 21” military date-stamp [(Greek) Army Postal Sector 922, 22 October 1921] allotted to XIII Infantry Division.
Backstamped with s.r. “ΑΘΗΝΑΙ 29.ΟΚΤ.21. (ΑΦΙΞΙΣ)” [Athens Arrival, 29 October 1921] at final destination.
[The large handwritten pencil number “128” on cover’s front side indicates addressee’s incoming serial number, placed on each new letter received and filed in arithmetical progression for reference as each letter was always answered later.]
