German Stammlager (Stalag) VIII B (now Łambinowice, Poland) POW postcard (German text with printed camp designation) sent by Australian private housed in the camp to relative in Botany NSW, Australia. The prisoner was captured on Crete Island in Greece, in May 1941. The message was written on 23.11.1941; interesting text.
Inspected at the camp; oval censor cachet ‘Stalag) VIII B / Geprüft: Nr. 7’ stamped in violet. The camp's double ring mute postmark shows ‘06.12.41’ date for dispatch.
Dispatched via Egypt; inspected by the British in Cairo, and stamped with the small DEPUTY CHIEF FIELD CENSOR and reader’s “Censorship Dept. 7” markings in violet.
Examined also on arrival in Australia; Sydney, N.S.W. diamond “2 PASSED BY CENSOR 954” marking applied.
