Social Providence (Heads of Queens Olga and Sophia, 1939) adhesives; all cancelled with “ΠΛΑΤΕΙΑ ΣΥΝΤΑΓΜΑΤΟΣ 5.VIII.40 ΑΕΡΟΠΟΡΙΚΩΣ” [Constitution Square PO (Athens) / By Air, 5 August 1940] postmark for departure.
Examined in Athens; stamped on front with “ΠΕΝ” [ΠΡΟΣΤΑΣΙΑ ΕΘΝΙΚΟΥ ΝΟΜΙΣΜΑΤΟΣ; National Currency Protection] s.r. marking.
Backstamped with m/s ATHINAI 5.VIII.40 POSTE AERIENNE on departure from Greece.
Opened and passed by censor in Vienna also, where the international letter inspection military service “g” was authorized to examine correspondence mainly to and from the Balkan States.
Pencil/stamp examiners’ numbers “2475/16/2”, “60/2” (front), ”6044”, ”645” (reverse) endorsed, while a “Oberkommando der Wehrmacht / Geprüft” red rubber stamp was applied slightly tying the “Geöffnet / Oberkommando der Wehrmacht g” printed re-sealing tape.
