Pair of British 2½d King George VI stamps overprinted ‘TANGIER’ in dark blue (1946) on airmailed envelop from UK to Greece. The stamps were cancelled at LONDON W.C. on 11.10.1950.
Backstamped upon arrival at destination (m/s ATHINAI POSTE AERIENNE 13 X 50 with text WAR IS OVER – RECONSTRUCTION NOW BEGINS).
[In 1950, the British post office put on sale its excess supply of M.E.F. and other overprints to the public. Of these stamps, only those still denominated in sterling were allowed to be used for postage in the country.]
