"CERIGO Occupazione Militare Italiana" overprint on six Greek stamps of the Historical issue of Greece (1937) [5L ‘Bull-leaping’; 10L ‘Court Lady of Tyrinthos’; ‘20L Zeus of Dodoni’; 40L ‘Coin of Amphiktyony’; 50L ‘Chairing Diagoras of Rhodes’; 80L ‘Venus of Delos’], part of a private (unofficial) issue, comprising a set of thirteen [9 regular plus 4 airpost] values known overprinted.
Each stamp bears a “fasces” design (bundle of wooden rods with axe at right) printed on gum (reverse).
[The prewar regular postage stamps of Greece were exceptionally kept in use on Cerigo during its occupation, while all other Ionian Islands used Italian stamps overprinted “Isole Jonie”.]
