POW Italian postcard to Greece written by Greek prisoner in Camp No. 17 at Rezzanello/Gazzola, Emilia-Romagna Region near Piacenza city (PC). Message written to family in Larissa/Greece on 1 August 1943.
Passed by the Foreign Mail Censor Office (designated I) in Rome; metal ‘UFFICIO CENSURA POSTA ESTERA I / VERIFICATO PER CENSURA” machine stamp applied along with fractional “39/I” office machine stamp and single circle “196/I” examiner’s marking shown aside in violet. The card remained in Rome, after it was captured by the Germans when the Italian capital was occupied in mid-September.
Forwarded to Munich for inspection by the international letter inspection military service “d”, authorized to examine correspondence mainly to and from Italy.

"Ad" office single line round rubber cachet and boxed examiner’s number "5411" were applied in red on front but also a chemical censor brush line, in blue, was used on text side. Tested with chemical censor brush line, in blue, on text side.
Dispathed to Larissa, Greece; no postal or other marks applied on arrival at final destination.
Greek officers are seldom seen in Italian POW camps.
