Commercial cover to Vienna, Germany franked with marginal block of five 200Dr ‘Mount Athos - Pantokrator Monastery’ (Landscapes issue, 1942) adhesives, cancelled with ‘ΠΕΙΡΑΙΕΥΣ 15 ΔΕΚ 43’ [Piraeus, 15 December 1943]. The 1000 dr. franking, required for international surface mail, was in effect from 10 November 1943 to 15 March 1944 [8/12 inflation period].
Sent to Vienna, where it was opened and inspected by the international letter inspection military service “g”, authorized to examine correspondence mainly to and from the Balkan States. Markings applied during the procedure: pencil/stamp examiners’ numbers “3604/4” (front), “6753” and “868” (reverse), while an “OKW / GEÖFFNET (g)” stamp in red was applied along the plain brown re-sealing tape.
Estimated it was redirected to Steiermark (Styria) area.
