OFLAG XB (Nienburg/Weser, Germany) POW postcard sender’s half (German/French text with printed camp designation on reverse) from Greek army officer housed in the camp. Message dated 3/7/44.
Month distribution "07" (July) and dispatch date "4.Juli 1944" handstamps applied at camp in red.
Sent to Vienna, where it was inspected by the international letter inspection military service “g”, authorized to examine correspondence mainly to and from the Balkan States; stamped with ‘OKW geprüft’ 7-line machine stamp.
The postmark applied at final destination in Greece (Kastoria, Western Macedonia) was apparently applied on postcard’s detached reply half.
Interesting item, mainly because Greek officers are rarely found in German POW camps.
Item condition: Very good; see scans.
