Complete set of 13 stamps of Italy (8 from the 1929 definitive issue + one airpost of 1930 + 4 from the 1934 postage due issue) overprinted ‘ISOLE JONIE’, used in the occupied Ionian Islands from 16 August 1941 to September 1943.
The adhesives are mounted on pre-war “Greek Ministry of Communications PTT” publicity special page for the 1938 Greek King Constantine Statue’s First Day of circulation, tied with ΚΕΡΚΥΡΑ ΑΠΟΣΤΟΛΗ 21 ΑΥΓ. 41 [Corfu Dispatch, 21 August 1941] canceller.
To confirm authenticity, the city Post Master wrote and signed the following text on reverse: “Βεβαιούται ότι η προμήθεια εγένετο παρά του καθ’ημίν γραφείου. Κέρκυρα 21 Αυγούστου 1941” [It is certified that the supply was done by our office. Kerkyra (Corfu) 21 August 1941]. The date-stamp used to cancel the adhesives on front, appears also here with his signature.
[After Axis forces occupied Greece in 1941, the Germans handed over the Ionian Islands (except Kythera) to the Italians, and special postage stamps were issued. In September 1943, the Germans replaced the Italians.]
Condition: Excellent, albeit lightly folded twice perpendicularly; see scans.
