Franchise German military lettercard (‘Feldpostbrief’ code E/0215) to Allendorf/Marburg, Germany. Return address: Fp.Nr. 57263E, allotted 12 kp. Festungs-Infanterie Bataillon 1012 [1012 Fortress Infantry Battalion, 12 coy] operating in Peloponnese/Greece.
The message, dated 23.11.1943, was written during sender’s 4-day trip by train from Greece to Hungary [reference in the text].
Postmarked with Feldpost ‘b’ 19.12.43 datestamp, almost a month later.
Seemingly due to lack of a Dienststelle marking, the battalion’s cachet (poorly stricken but with its designation number ‘1012’ clear) was applied for postage-free expedition.
Unusual situation; very fine item. See scans.
