GREECE: HellasD87Cah:
1913-28 Litho Postage Dues: 5L green Period C printing [accent mark on O
of ΓΡΑΜΜΑΤΟΣΗΜΟΝ
] with the bottom inscription erroneously reading εισποακτεα instead of εισπρακτεα (Scott listed variety as J66c). This in itself is not a big deal, HOWEVER, the stamp has the bottom row showing a combination of the 10½ and 13½ perfs,
toward the right of the stamp (Note: the mis-inscribed stamp also
exists with the horizontal top row complete with only 10½ perfs, listed
as Hellas D87Cab, priced at 120 euros). As such, the example offered here is Hellas D87Cah, listed but not priced.

The stamp is unused but it was washed off an album page upon it was stuck
and so it lacks its gum. It was compared with two other copies of this scarce variety with
all copies showing the following: a. the 13½ perf starts at four perf
tips on the right, making it easy to miss and differentiate between the
combo perfs and the scarce 10½ only perf varieties. b. the perfs at the
bottom left corner ALWAYS seem to show a rounded corner, some more than
others. This is simply how the cutting blade was. c. Bottom right perfs
seem to "protrude" or extend beyond the vertical row. Folks, the
perfs on this stamp are amazing in case you are not familiar with the
perf problems with this and other serrate roulette issues of Greece and
area of this period. Fresh, with the usual centering for this, unused no
gum, EXCELLENT VARIETY stamp. This is the second copy I have now
handled.

Please note: In order for the printers to correct
problems of the serrate roulette perforation, they would - on certain
spots - rework the blades but by doing so ended up creating a 10½
perforation (commonly known as wide) instead of the normal 13½. In some
cases, some stamps will have one, two or even three rows (horizontal
and/or vertical) with the wide perfs. However, in some cases, transition
"combination" perfs exist where on one side both regular and wide perfs
are present. These are on occasion far more difficult to find. To have a
combination of errors on one stamp (plate inscription error and
perforation combination variety), like we have here, is very scarce.
This variety was only recently listed into the catalogue. If you have
any additional questions or concerns please email me.
