The last remnants of the former Denikin forces were confined in 1920 to the Crimean Peninsula and commanded by Pyotr Nikolayevich Wrangel.
The Bolsheviks captured the White Army position in November 1920 and the White forces were evacuated to Turkey. Together with Russian civilians, the French granted them asylum. The 4.500 civilians and the Wrangel Army were hosted in camps in Constantinople and suburbs, at Gallipoli, at Lemnos, at Famagusta (Cyprus), Bulgaria and Serbia, before they leave to Tunisia (Bizerte).
Their very small quantity of mail was served by the French Military Post.
The well known large “postmarks” and the overprinted stamps seen on “philatelic” covers are of private inspiration and production (bogus), made some years later in Paris (1924?), in order to collect money from the philatelic market for these refugees.
The genuine mail is extremely rare.
